Dunchurch

In 1648 George Fox arrived in Coventry and found the people of Coventry all drunk so he went onto ‘Duncow’ where he stayed. That would be in Dunchurch. The Duncow is still a popular hotel and eating place although has been converted to a modern style chain eating house a few years ago.

A plaque outside records it is where the Stevenson's father and son where dined after the successful completion of the London Euston to Birmingham Railway line.

Dunchurch as several other calls to fame one is that the black and white building (visable accross the green on the right) is where the conspirators of the Guy Fawkes plot where waiting for the news of the success of the blowing up of parliament.

The author of this website harbours the fond thought that it is on this occaision that George Fox may have travelled through his home village of Wolston.
